👤 Persona 1: Data Platform Analyst

Your focus: Platform health, metadata coverage, usage analytics, governance reporting, and ensuring the catalogue is working as intended across the organisation.

What's Changed for You in V6

1. Redesigned Data Profiles — Better Metadata at a Glance

The Data Profile page is the source of knowledge for any data asset in K — whether that's a table, report, pipeline, ML model, or piece of code. In V6, the layout has been rebuilt to reduce cognitive load and surface the right information faster.

What's new:

  • Cleaner tab structure: Overview, Usage, Lineage, Quality, and Linked

  • Related code now appears in the Overview tab — no need to navigate separately

  • All relationship types available across all profile types (previous restrictions removed)

What this means for you:

  • Faster QA of metadata completeness during catalogue health reviews

  • Easier identification of under-documented assets when auditing coverage

  • Reduced time navigating between tabs to assemble a full picture of an asset

📖 Data Profiles — V6 Knowledge Base

2. New Sidebar — Persistent Asset Summary

Every Data Profile page now has a persistent right-hand sidebar that shows critical metadata without requiring tab switching.

What the sidebar shows:

  • Type, Location, Trust Score, Category, Classification, Domain, Data Product

  • Verified For / Do Not Use For use cases

  • Refresh Time, Load Schedule, Load Status

  • PII detection status (Masked, PII Data Detected, PII Metadata Linked)

  • Assigned Owners and Stewards

  • Data Governance and Data Management collections

  • Tags, Channels, Usage frequency, and Zone

What this means for you:

  • During catalogue audits, you can assess governance completeness at a glance — no deep navigation required

  • PII coverage and ownership gaps are immediately visible without running a separate query

📖 Sidebar — V6 Knowledge Base

3. Trust Score — Drill-Through Insights

The Trust Score is now interactive. Clicking on any asset's Trust Score reveals the individual factors contributing to the score — both baseline (observability) and influences (governance actions).

Trust Score Baseline factors (automated):

  • Usage frequency and variety

  • Type of users accessing the asset

  • Lineage availability (known upstream provenance)

Trust Score Influence factors (governance-driven):

  • Category and Classification assigned

  • Description / documentation completed

  • Domain assigned

  • Verified use cases or Do Not Use For assigned

  • Owner and Steward assigned

  • Open issues (penalty)

  • Replaced / Obsolete status (penalty)

What this means for you:

  • You can now identify exactly which governance gaps are dragging down Trust Scores across your estate

  • Use Governance Insights dashboard alongside Trust Score drill-through to prioritise remediation work

📖 Trust Score — V6 Knowledge Base

4. Usage Tab — Flexible Time Selection & Expanded Coverage

The Usage Tab now supports flexible time period selection across all asset types. It is also now available for Users, Teams, Schemas, and Tools — not just data assets.

Key usage metrics available:

  • Read frequency and unique read users

  • Write users and write frequency

  • Read tools and write tools

  • Top Users & Teams ranked by access frequency

What this means for you:

  • Analyse adoption trends across custom date ranges — not just fixed windows

  • Identify low-usage assets that may be candidates for deprecation

  • Understand schema-level and tool-level consumption patterns

📖 Usage Tab — V6 Knowledge Base

5. Ask K — Now Accessible from Search & Collections

Ask K is now available from any search result, collection, or list — not just as a standalone application (which has been retired in V6).

How Ask K works in V6:

  1. Use Search + Filters to narrow down the assets you want to query

  2. Select your Ask K template and customise the export configuration

  3. Click Generate Export — if the report takes time, you'll receive an email when ready to download

Available export templates:

  • Asset details / Governance details

  • Asset usage summary / Asset usage by user / User usage by asset / Asset usage by tool

  • Asset access by user / User access by asset

  • K data scanner scope (PII monitoring configuration)

What this means for you:

  • Run governance audits directly from search results — no context switching to a separate app

  • Customise export columns to match internal reporting standards

⚠️ Deprecation note: The standalone Ask K application has been removed from the K Applications page. Scheduled Ask K report delivery has also been deprecated in V6.0. If your team relied on scheduled reports, contact your KADA account manager.

👤 Persona 2: Data Engineer

Your focus: Data pipelines, lineage, schema management, DQ test configuration, integration health, and understanding the technical impact of platform changes.

What's Changed for You in V6

Previously, code linked to a data asset was accessed through separate navigation. In V6, related code surfaces directly in the Overview tab of the Data Profile page.

What this means for you:

  • Faster cross-referencing between assets and the code that produces or consumes them

  • Particularly useful during incident response — identify relevant pipelines without leaving the asset profile

  • Reduces time navigating Lineage maps when the code connection is the primary concern

2. Lineage — Unrestricted Relationships + Power BI Enhancements

All relationship types are now available across all profile types. Previous restrictions on which relationships could be added to which asset types have been removed.

Power BI source lineage enhancements in V6 improve traceability from Power BI reports back to source data — making end-to-end lineage more complete for BI-heavy environments.

What this means for you:

  • Model complex data flows more accurately — no more workarounds for restricted relationship types

  • Power BI lineage now provides more complete source tracing, reducing manual gap-filling

3. DQ Tests — Auto-Linked to Domains

In V6, when a DQ Test targets an asset (e.g. a column) that has a domain configured, the DQ Test is automatically linked to that domain.

What this means for you:

  • DQ test results now flow automatically into domain-level governance without manual tagging

  • Reduces post-configuration overhead when setting up new DQ tests

  • Ensures domain owners see relevant quality signals without requiring engineer intervention

Direct link to KDQ is also now available from Navigation → Data Quality tab — faster access without searching.

📖 Managing Data Quality — Knowledge Base

4. Sensitive Data Scanner — Performance Improvements

V6 includes significant performance improvements for the Sensitive Data Scanner (PII detection). Load times for scanner results are materially faster.

What this means for you:

  • Faster feedback loops when configuring or expanding PII scanning scope

  • Reduced wait time when reviewing scanner results during data onboarding

5. Custom Asset Properties

V6 introduces the ability to capture custom properties about an asset — beyond the standard metadata schema — without requiring custom development.

What this means for you:

  • Capture engineering-specific attributes (e.g. SLA tier, criticality rating, ingestion pattern) directly on an asset profile

  • Reduces reliance on external documentation or spreadsheets for platform-specific metadata

6. New Navigation — Inventory

The side navigation now includes an Inventory section providing direct access to:

  • Glossary Terms

  • Data Domains

  • Data Governance / Data Management collections

  • Knowledge

  • Lists

What this means for you:

  • Faster access to domain definitions and glossary terms when validating data models

  • No longer need to navigate through Search to find collection or domain context

📖 Navigating K — V6 Knowledge Base

👤 Persona 3: Data Governance & Data Steward

Your focus: Governance policy enforcement, glossary management, data ownership, classification, domain management, and audit readiness.

What's Changed for You in V6

1. Trust Score — Full Drill-Through Visibility

2. Review Date & Alerts for Terms and Instances

All collection instances and terms can now be configured with a review date, review frequency, and next review date.

How to set up:

  1. Go to the Term or Instance profile page

  2. In the Details panel (sidebar), select the review date

  3. Set a review frequency: 90 days, 180 days, or 365 days

  4. Next Review Date is auto-calculated

How to configure review alerts:

  • Use Search + Filters to find Terms with upcoming review dates (Next 7 days / Next 30 days options available)

  • Save as a Filter and configure an Alert to deliver the list by email automatically

  • For expired terms: use the Between filter on Next Review Date (Start of time → Now)

What this means for you:

  • Governance lifecycle is now managed within K — no external spreadsheet tracking required

  • Automated alerts ensure reviewers are notified before terms expire

  • Audit evidence is generated automatically from the review date log

📖 Configuring Review Date or Alerts — V6 Knowledge Base

3. Has Linked Term — New Filter for Coverage Reporting

A new Has Linked Term stat lets you filter all data assets by whether a business glossary term has been linked to them.

How to use it:

  • Apply the filter from the Search or Filters page to get a list of assets without a linked term

  • Use this as your governance coverage gap report

  • Combine with Domain or Classification filters to scope by data domain

What this means for you:

  • Instant visibility into unlinked assets across the entire data estate

  • Prioritise term-linking effort by domain, classification, or asset type

  • Supports audit evidence for glossary coverage metrics

4. DQ Tests — Auto-Linked to Domains

DQ Tests now automatically link to the domain of their target asset. This means domain owners and stewards receive quality signals without manual configuration.

What this means for you:

  • Less manual overhead maintaining DQ test → domain mappings

  • Domain-level quality dashboards stay current automatically

  • Stewards can monitor DQ results for their domain without chasing engineers

5. Sidebar — Governance at a Glance

The new persistent sidebar on every Data Profile page shows governance attributes instantly — without tab navigation.

Governance-relevant sidebar components:

  • Trust Score (with drill-through)

  • Category, Classification, Domain, Data Product

  • Verified For / Do Not Use For

  • Assigned Owner and Steward

  • PII detection status

  • Data Governance and Data Management collections linked

What this means for you:

  • Faster governance reviews — all key attributes visible without opening tabs

  • During bulk governance walkthroughs, assess and triage assets more efficiently

👤 Persona 4: Data Analytics Specialist

Your focus: Finding, validating, and using data to drive business insight. You rely on K to discover trusted data, understand its lineage, and verify it's fit for your use case.

What's Changed for You in V6

1. Redesigned Data Profiles — Faster Discovery

The Data Profile page is now significantly cleaner and more intuitive. Key improvements for data consumers:

  • Asset Sidebar is always visible — trust score, ownership, verified use cases, and PII status at a glance

  • Overview tab now shows related code, making it easier to understand how data is produced

  • All relationships available — related datasets, reports, and models all surface without restriction

What this means for you:

  • Evaluate whether a dataset is fit for use in seconds — not minutes

  • Spot governance gaps (missing owner, low trust score, open issues) before committing to using an asset

  • Understand the technical provenance of a dataset without asking a data engineer

📖 Data Profiles — V6 Knowledge Base

2. Trust Score — Understand Why Data is (or Isn't) Trusted

The Trust Score is now interactive and transparent. You can see exactly which factors make a dataset trustworthy — or flag concerns.

As an analytics user, look for:

  • High Trust Score signals: Verified use cases, assigned owner, documented description, active usage by other users

  • Risk signals: Open issues, Replaced / Obsolete status, no lineage, no description, no assigned owner

Practical tip: Before building an analysis on a new dataset, click on its Trust Score to review the contributing factors. If "Verified use cases" is missing, check whether the asset has been approved for your use case with the data owner.

📖 Trust Score — V6 Knowledge Base

3. Usage Tab — Validate Data Activity

The Usage Tab is now available for a wider range of assets and supports flexible time period selection.

For analytics users, key metrics are:

  • Read users — how many people are actively using this dataset

  • Top Users & Teams — are domain experts or senior analysts using this data? Signals credibility.

  • Usage frequency — Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Infrequently, or Not Used

New in V6: You can now filter usage by custom time periods, not just fixed windows — useful when assessing whether a dataset was recently active after a known pipeline change.

What this means for you:

  • Validate that a dataset is live and actively used before building a critical report on it

  • Identify your most-used data assets to prioritise documentation requests

  • Check if a dataset has declined in usage, which may signal a quality or relevance issue

📖 Usage Tab — V6 Knowledge Base
