K helps data governance teams fast-track the process of understanding their data ecosystem and designing the right governance framework. K's Data Governance features automate manual classification work, centralise data quality management, surface actionable insights, and bring governance context directly into the tools the business already uses, so the right people always have the right information.
Data Governance features are primarily available to users with Data Manager, Data Governance Manager, or Administrator roles.
The Data Governance workflow
Governance in K follows six stages. Each one builds on the one before.
1. Set the documentation standard
K measures every data asset against the same six attributes. An asset is fully governed when it has:

2. Track progress against it
Governance Progress shows each asset's status (not started, partial or completed) on its Sidebar. The Governance Dashboards roll this up across your data assets and collections, so you can see where to focus first.
3. Automate classification
The PII scanner flags sensitive columns across your sources, and Automated Data Tagging classifies new assets using business rules as they're ingested, so gaps don't build up as the estate grows.
4. Measure and manage quality
Managing Data Quality & Issues brings DQ results from tools like Great Expectations, dbt and Snowflake into K, so you can track quality scores and raise issues from failing tests. Dashboard & Insights brings governance progress, quality, usage and open issues into one place.
5. Act at scale and keep it current
Performing Tasks in Bulk lets you fill the gaps Governance Progress highlights across hundreds of assets at once. Setting a Review Date prompts regular review, so a completed status doesn't go stale.
6. Bring governance to where people work
Embedded Governance surfaces ownership, classification, open issues and warnings directly inside Power BI and Tableau reports, so data consumers have the right context without leaving their tools.
